Choosing a bicycle helmet: fit, use and features
Published
The short answer: Start with your bicycle type and the certification you need. Then measure your head circumference and compare the fit. Choose additional features, such as a visor, lights or ear warmers, afterwards.
1. Start with your bicycle and your journeys
A short city trip, a daily commute and a long sporting ride place different demands on comfort and convenience. Check the model’s intended use and the markings on the helmet. For a speed pedelec, also consider the requirements for that vehicle in the country where you ride.
Pro Sport Lights offers NTA 8776 models, among others. A stated standard does not replace a good fit or guarantee that every fall will be injury-free.
2. Measure your head and try the helmet on
Use a flexible measuring tape and measure horizontally above your eyebrows. Compare the measurement in centimetres with the exact model’s size chart. A general size letter is not enough: Pro Sport Lights ClearView sizes differ from those of the helmet with ear warmers.
| Model | Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|
| ClearView | 50–57 cm | 54–61 cm |
| Helmet with ear warmers | 49–55 cm | 53–60 cm |

3. Which features will you actually use?
- Visor: useful against wind and insects; check your view and the space for your glasses.
- Lights: extra visibility, with charging and the available light modes to consider.
- Ear warmers: a useful choice for colder rides; check that they belong to the chosen model.
- Weight: compare the stated weights, but give greater importance to the actual fit.
4. Compare the two main models
ClearView weighs approximately 260 g, has two visors and LED lighting, and is available in black and beige. The model with ear warmers weighs 375 g and is available in matte black and matte white, also with two visors and LED lighting.
Compare current prices on the product pages. A higher price does not automatically mean that a helmet will fit your head better. Do not choose based on a temporary discount alone.
5. Check before ordering
- Are the selected variant’s size and colour correct?
- Are the visors or ear warmers you want included in the box?
- Is any additional visor compatible with this specific model?
- Have you checked the shipping and return conditions?
