Patching a bicycle tire

Patching a flat inner tube is not as difficult as you think. You need: a repair kit (with tire levers, glue, patches and sandpaper), spanners, scissors, bicycle pump and a bucket of water.

Now follow the steps below.

Remove the tire from the wheel

  • Turn the bike upside down
  • Deflate the tire and loosen the valve
  • Insert the first tire lever next to the valve between the tire and the rim and hook it behind a spoke. Do the same with the second tire lever, about two spokes away
  • Carefully loosen the tire with the third tire lever
  • Remove the tire from the rim
  • Feel whether there are anything sharp (glass, nail, etc.) on the inside of the tire
  • Stick the inner tube

Remove the inner tube from the wheel.

  • Inflate the tire and locate the puncture by holding the tire under water. The leak is where air bubbles appear
  • Deflate the tire and lightly sand the puncture site
  • Apply some glue to the tire and let it sit for two minutes
  • Cut a circle from the piece of tire patch (or take a ready-made sticker), stick it on the puncture and press it firmly
  • Let it dry for five minutes

Put the tires back on the wheel

  • Place the valve back in the rim and assemble it (wait to tighten the thin nut until the tires are back on the bike)
  • Inflate the inner tube slightly and place it in the tire
  • Press the tire all around into the rim. Start at the valve and work your way around slowly
  • Push the last piece of tire back into the rim with a tire lever
