Which bike helmet for your e-bike commute?
PublishedBy Pro Sport Lights
The short answer: for your daily commute, choose based on fit first. If both ICE and ClearView fit, ClearView makes sense if low weight matters to you. Choose ICE if you want removable ear warmers included as standard and a longer stated maximum runtime for the helmet lights. Both models come with a clear visor, a sun visor and front and rear LED lights.
A bike helmet for commuting needs to do more than sound good on paper. You wear it often, ride in changing light and sometimes set off on a cold morning. This guide therefore focuses on which model best suits your daily route and preferences, rather than naming a single “best” helmet.
Which bike helmet suits your commute?
Work through these four points in order. This helps you keep the basics ahead of colour or an extra feature.
- Fit: measure your head circumference and use the size chart for the specific model. The same size letter covers a different range for ICE and ClearView.
- Weight: consider whether a lower stated weight matters when you wear the helmet every day.
- Weather: decide whether you want ear warmers included as standard or would prefer to add a removable winter liner later.
- Ride and charging: compare the stated battery life of the helmet lights with your use and establish a regular charging routine.

| A lighter model | ClearView | Stated weight of approximately 260 g, compared with 375 g for this ICE version. |
| Ear warmers included as standard | ICE | ICE comes with two visors and removable ear warmers as standard. |

The weights and runtimes quoted are product specifications, not the results of our own comparison test. The actual runtime of the lights depends, among other things, on the lighting mode you select. Check that the lights are sufficiently charged before setting off.
When does ClearView suit your route?

ClearView is the first model to try on if a lighter helmet is your main priority for your daily ride. Medium is intended for a head circumference of 50–57 cm and Large for 54–61 cm. The helmet comes with a clear visor and a dark sun visor. The lights charge via USB-C; the stated charging time is approximately 2.5 hours.

When is ICE a better fit?

ICE is the first model to try on if you often set off in cool conditions and want removable ear warmers included as standard. Medium has a stated size range of 49–55 cm and Large of 53–60 cm. The ear warmers also form the inner padding and take up space, so the helmet may feel different from ClearView or another helmet model.
According to the product specifications, the helmet lights have a maximum runtime of up to 10 hours, depending on the lighting mode, and a charging time of approximately 3 hours. Use these figures to help you plan, rather than as a guaranteed runtime for every ride.

Clear or dark visor for your commute?
Both helmets come with a clear visor and a sun visor. The clear visor is the natural choice for an early ride, darkness or overcast conditions. The dark sun visor is intended for bright daylight and makes your surroundings appear darker. Choose for each ride based on the current light, as well as the look you prefer.
Do you wear glasses? Try the helmet and visor with your own frames. The space available varies between glasses, and a visor does not guarantee clearance for every frame. Read the guide for glasses wearers and only use an extra visor that is specifically intended for your model. You can find more information in the visor selection guide.
What should you choose for cold commutes?

If you want ear warmers included with your helmet from the start, ICE is the simplest choice. If you have ClearView or want a removable winter option, take a look at the compatible Winter Kit for ClearView and ICE. Choose the same size as your helmet: Medium for Medium and Large for Large.
Pay attention to the fit. Extra lining reduces the space inside the helmet. If your helmet is already very tight without the winter liner, the kit may create too much pressure. An accessory should never be used to try to correct the wrong helmet size.
A practical routine for every working day
- Before setting off: check the fit, fastening, chosen visor and charge level of the helmet lights.
- After arriving: do not put a wet visor or damp liner away in a closed container, and plan your next charging session.
- In changing light: only take the second visor with you if you can store it safely without scratching it.
- Every week: check that the visor attachments and removable liner are correctly fitted. Do not force any part that is stuck.

Frequently asked questions
Which bike helmet is lightest for commuting?
Of the two models in this guide, ClearView has the lowest stated weight: approximately 260 g compared with 375 g for this ICE version. Fit remains more important than weight alone.
Which helmet should I choose for cold mornings?
Choose ICE if you want removable ear warmers included as standard. A compatible Winter Kit with an inner liner and ear pieces is also available for both ClearView and ICE. Always check that the extra lining fits comfortably.
Do I need to order an extra visor for commuting?
No. Both helmets discussed here include a clear visor and a sun visor. Extra coloured visors are optional and must fit the correct helmet model.
Which size should I choose if Medium and Large overlap?
Use your head circumference to narrow down the sizes first, then assess the actual fit. Do not automatically choose a larger size for more room. ICE and ClearView have different size ranges.
